About the brewery

Refsvindinge Brewery is one of Denmark's oldest, family-owned breweries.

Briefly about our history

The brewery was founded on April 15, 1885 by Hans Poul Rasmussen.

On January 1, 2001, John and Ellen Rasmussen took over the brewery as the 4th generation. In 1995, John brewed the nationally famous Ale no. 16 and helped start the Danish beer revolution.

In line with increasing sales, the brewery has expanded several times.

Diploma of Honor for Classic Product

Denmark is a seafaring nation, and for long-distance shipping, breweries developed a beer that could withstand transport and not intoxicate people while sailing.

Ship's beer was brewed with smoked malt and was an excellent thirst quencher without a high alcohol content.

When the bottle was opened, there was a smell of rope and tar. The taste was not too sweet, just bitter enough and could compete with the skrais. The market disappeared over time.

If it weren't for the small brewery in Refsvindinge and the Rasmussen family, this Danish cultural monument would have disappeared.

Refsvindinge brews ship beer in an authentic version, which is sold at an absolutely reasonable price.

In 2021, the Danish Gastronomic Academy rewarded the preservation of the classic product.
